Nearly a quarter (24 per cent) of pet owners in the UK say it is important to understand the latest "fashion trends" in pet products, according to a new study by market research consultancy Mintel.
More than half (56%) of British pet owners say their pets enjoy getting new pet supplies; This was compared with 62 per cent of pet owners aged between 16 and 44.
Almost a quarter (23 per cent) of pet owners believe style is more important than quality.
Grooming for the dog seems to be a growing trend, and people like Paris? British celebrities such as Hilton and Jessica Wright undoubtedly contributed to this trend. Thirty-one percent of pet owners think pet clothing is "cute," while 42 percent of pet owners aged 16-34 support the idea.
A growing market
Pet lovers in the UK spent a total of 884 million pounds on pet supplies last year, while sales in 2017 are expected to rise by 3 percent to 908 million pounds. By 2021, britons are expected to spend more than 1 billion pounds on pet supplies for their beloved pets.
Jane Westgarth, senior retail analyst at Mintel, said: "" brits dote on their pets, take them to celebrations and buy them gifts, fashion accessories and toys. Personification of pets means pet owners will spend more money on keeping their pets happy, healthy and active.
